Kegs of Austin Eastciders Gold Top roll out across town
Virginia B. Wood, 1:10pm, Fri. Oct. 25, 2013

Though cider man Ed Gibson has had to push back the opening date of his Austin Eastciders (979 Springdale Rd.) production facility and tasting room into 2014, his premier product rolled out in kegs earlier this month.

The first batch of Gibson’s Gold Top cider hit the Austin market in 2011 to rave reviews and it quickly sold out. Gold Top is currently being made at Flat Creek Estate Winery while the new production facility is being completed. This month, Gibson has been busy approaching bar and restaurant owners to see who has taps available to add Gold Top to their bar offerings. He’ll be updating his website with new locations all month.

Gibson is eager to be involved in events around town. In addition to pouring Gold Top, he expects to tap some special varieties of cider at events scheduled during Austin Beer Week and the upcoming East Austin Studio Tour. For example:

Friday, Oct. 25th 6:00-9:00pm

Meat the Eastciders at Freedman’s (2402 San Gabriel)

Enjoy old style Texas Honey Cider and Traditional Still Farmhouse Cider paired with a sizzling whole hog pig roast in the beer garden at this popular West Campus bar and barbecue joint. There will be plenty of Gold Top on hand, as well. The deal is free admission, 3 free drinks, free barbecue bites, and pay as you go for the pig roast.

Tuesday, Oct. 29th 7:00-10:00PM

Against the Grain: Gluten-Free Night at Snack Bar (1224 S. Congress)

Don’t let your gluten intolerance limit your participation in events this week. The kitchen here will whip up a menu of gluten-free food specials to complement a couple of small batch releases and the newly launched Gold Top. Free admission, free cider samples, half-priced pints all night.

Saturday, Nov. 2nd

Gold Top Launch Party at Austin Eastciders (979 Springdale Rd.)

Join in the fun at the Gold Top launch party and get a preview of the East Austin production facility and tasting room. There will be free barbecue from Micklethwait Craft Meats, special musical guests, and plenty of good cider. Special tappings will be a Dry Hopped Cider with Warrio hops , Farmhouse Still Cider, and Texas Honey Cider made with wild years and Texas wildflower honey. Free admission but please RSVP.

After the Gold Top launch party, walk across the street to the East Side Studio Tour launch party, where Ed will all also be pouring his signature cider.
