Artists. You'd think they'd have the courtesy to keep to their filthy ghettos of *fnord* creation and not invade spaces meant for the leveraging of corporate synergy and the glittering fiscal domination of social paradigms.

You'd think they'd be too busy scraping a miserable hand-to-mouth existence among their canvases and plastercasts and tubes of Grumbacher acrylics to spend time corrupting all that's good and wholesome in a vacant space next to the Stateside Theatre Downtown.

But, no, Co-Lab Projects and Russell Etchen – known provocateurs who don't know when the hell to leave well enough alone – have to stake a temporary claim (until Hallowe'en) on the unused venue and fill it with transgressive artifacts from the likes of Lane Hagood and Mark Flood and the enigmatic Jeremy DePrez.

At long last, have they no sense of decency?
And who the hell are they, anyway, these so-called artists?

The answer comes from the miscreants themselves: "We are trouble in threes, three tarnished coins in life’s luckless fountain of liquid shit, three rancid jumping-beans rattling around in the tossed and wilted scum-salad at the bottom of the art-dumpster, coming to an end-of-the-world Austin exhibit all too near you."

Here in Texas, we call that sort of lippy backtalk "sass."
And it strikes up a righteous violence in our brisket-clotted lonestar hearts.

No wonder they note that, at tonight's reception, armed security will be present.
