Kickstart Your Weekend With John and the Frye Brothers
Some movies excel in feel-good, heartwarming exchanges that leave the viewer content and satisfied. These are not necessarily that type of movie.
The Frye Brothers Had a Threesome
In case the plot wasn't abundantly clear from the title, The Frye Brothers Had a Threesome follows two brothers – "best friends by choice, brothers by blood" – as they court and bring home a stranger from a bar. The pitch video for their Kickstarter campaign brings you right to the bedroom, but what about what happens next? Can they repair their relationship? Can they save face with friends and family? With Austin comedy favorites Byron Brown (Grow Up Tony Phillips) and Sam Eidson (Zero Charisma) involved, it'll probably be good, but you'll have to chip in to find out.
Over in a completely different direction, John 3:16 is about a guy who gets into a terrible car accident and finds himself stuck with two good Samaritans who want to save him but don't want to actually save him. Writer/director John Bryant says he aims to make his audience "completely uncomfortable," and if the pitch video is any indication, he's totally capable. You'll cringe as you watch him juggle his cell phone, impatient friends, exploding credit card debt, and Whataburger order and wonder if this isn't the prequel to the feature film. Take a look, and then check out the campaign to try to give him some money so he can avoid "making the dream into reality" in totally the wrong way.
