We Need More of Randall Reid's Fractured Signs in Our Times
That Davis Gallery exhibition we raved about a while ago is long over. The recent Reid show at Sante Fe's NuArt Gallery ended a couple of weeks ago. Yes, Fort Worth's William Campbell venue does have Reid's "Resurrected Dreams: Cowboys, Aliens & Espionage" up through June 15th, but, as delightful as it is, that collection doesn't quite hit us, as so many of Reid's other works do, in the intersection of heart and brain that memory relentlessly haunts.
We know the particular sections of Reid's oeuvre that we want to see, and we want to see them right now – but that's not happening, is it?
This is like, days between stations.
This is like, waiting for the man.
And time drags so slow.
Luckily, there's a paper solution – and it'll do until we can again walk into a bright temple of art hallowed by what the Texas State University professor's wrought from antique signage and measuring tools and the compromised tines of rakes, enclosed in perfectly machined steel frames.
