King's Road ShinDigs for West, TX

The gang at King's Road offer a way to help our neighbors

The launch of King's Road Vintage at the corner of Sixth and Red River heralds the return of retail to Dirty Sixth. Tonight they host their Grand Opening ShinDig.

Today's party (Friday, April 26, 6-10pm) is the official launch of the shop which opened its doors right before South by Southwest. The Effinays and DJ JJ Booyah will play, and the store will debut its new King's Road Market (a kind of "First Thursday" for the Sixth and Red River set).

The store itself is housed in a gorgeous space with partitioned rooms that couldn't be more perfect for showcasing the curatorial skills of the individual dealers. The stock of vintage and antique curios, tchotchkes, clothing, and furniture is the perfect mash-up of Austin vintage sensibility as viewed through a fetching pair of shades one might've found on Carnaby Street circa 1967: Imagine the kitsch and mid-century-through-Seventies flair of Room Service and Prototype with the crypt-kicking quirk of Uncommon Objects, plus the elegant charm of Amelia's Retro Vogue all rolled into one fab new take. The goods are so well chosen, and the presentation reflects this.

In addition to the commensurate free vodka, raffle, and photobooth that one has come to expect from Austin shindigs like this, there will also be opportunities to help the folks of West, TX. Donate $5 or more in cash/charge or a new toiletry item and receive 10% off your purchase.

So, only one question remains: Are you a mod or a rocker?
