APD Officer Injured in Robbery-related Shootout

Officer sustained 'non-life threatening injuries'

UPDATE: Police say a suspect is now in custody in connection with the robbery and shooting this afternoon in East Austin.

EARLIER: Austin Police are asking residents to avoid the area around Manor Road and Susquehanna Lane, and Hwy 183 and Loyola Lane as they search for an armed suspect who shot at police officers while fleeing from a robbery.

Police say the incident began at the Capital Plaza Shopping Center, where officers were responding to a robbery call. A car chase ensued, ending at the H-E-B on Manor Rd. at Springdale Rd. The suspect shot at police officers and the officers returned fire; one officer was shot and has sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
