SXSW: A Thousand Bands And More

Latest huge infodump adds Clutch, Vampire Weekend

If you're planning on making your SXSW Music short list, get cracking now. Today's latest additions take the announced bands into quadruple digits, and you know they're not done yet.

We're not even going to try to list all the new names today, but here's a few highlights.

After a couple of years of post-Contra seclusion, Vampire Weekend will be raising hopes that their long-promised and still untitled third album will be ready in time for SX.

They're not alone in the "expected release" category. Local legendary industrial crew Skrew are grinding away on their followup to 1997's Angel Seed XXIII (now that's a hiatus). Other familiar names from the 512 include Carrie Rodriguez, Jesse Dayton, The Band of Heathens, East Cameron Folkcore, and My Education/Theta Naught collabo Sound Mass.

On the heavy-heavy side, there's some familiar names. Blues-tinged bruisers Clutch; A Seb Bach-free Skid Row; Canadian noise rockers Ken Mode; And British stoner crows Orange Goblin. And, I don't want to read too much into it, but with Josh Holmes' other other other side project Eagles of Death Metal on the list, and his old buddy/erstwhile Queen of the Stone Age Dave Grohl keynoting the conference, let the wild speculation commence.

And as for performers that fall into the 'if you don't like them, there may be something wrong with you,' Akina Adderley and the Vintage Playboys, and Fitz and the Tantrums (winner of the SXSW 2012 award for being everywhere all the time), are also confirmed.

Grab a comfy chair and graze on the full list here. We'll have lots more info in upcoming weeks, and don't forget: We'll have so much coverage, previews, reviews and interviews in the weeks ahead, well, you can thank us then.

SXSW Music 2013 runs March 12-17. More info at www.sxsw.com/music.
