Short Story Contest Deadline Reminder

Postmark deadline for our annual fiction contest is Monday, Dec. 10
Kimberley Jones, 7:26pm, Sun. Dec. 9, 2012
While we generally think Mark Twain knew what he was talking about, in the case of our annual Austin Chronicle Short Story Contest, best not heed his advice to “never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” Alas, day after tomorrow will be too late: Postmark deadline for short story submissions is Monday, Dec. 10.

Still clawing your way through the first draft? We recently asked some of favorite local (and one formerly local) authors to share a few words of advice:

Katie Williams on writing superstitions
Amanda Eyre Ward on not beating yourself up too much
Austin Kleon on how to collect ideas from all around you
Bob Byington on a simple dialogue exercise he picked up from Deadwood creator David Milch
Owen Egerton, riffing on Jack Kerouac’s “Belief and Technique for Modern Prose,” on 30 things for new writers to keep in mind

Finally, before you seal the envelope on your submission, be sure to skim our rules & regs one more time to make sure you didn’t miss anything. And don’t forget to spell check!
