Update: According to APD Vehicular Homicide Detective Ron Philips, Roman Jesus Turullos-Gonzalez turned himself in to police yesterday afternoon.

Turullos-Gonzalez has hired attorney Samuel Bassett to represent him, and Phillips said he still hasn't been told whether Turullos-Gonzalez will be providing APD with a statement about the hit-and-run killing. Phillips declined to say how police determined that it was Turullos-Gonzalez who was driving the Toyota pickup that killed jogger Mark Gobble. Previously:

The Austin Police Department seeks assistance in finding Roman Jesus Turullos-Gonzalez, who is wanted in connection with a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a deaf Austinite Sunday night.

Turullos-Gonzalez is charged with failure to stop and render aid. According to police reports, a silver Toyota Tacoma veered across Slaughter Lane and hit a jogger on the sidewalk early Sunday morning. The vehicle was found abandoned a few blocks away.

The victim, Mark Gobble, was by all accounts an incredible man. A Ph.D. candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, he was recently hired to be a faculty member at Boston University. Gobble also worked as an associate principal of the high school at the Texas School for the Deaf, ran a skateboard business, and journeyed to Mount Everest. He died the day before his 38th birthday and leaves behind a wife and two children.

Said TSD Superintendent Claire Bugen in a press release: "We wrap our love and support around the Gobble family on this difficult journey of loss, and we grieve the dreams that Mark was unable to fulfill."
