Oh L'amour!
Violet flamers return to the land of the violet crown
By Kate X Messer, 9:00AM, Fri. Oct. 17, 2014
Le Gay Place just about slapped herself silly when she missed Mr. Andy Bell at Austin Pride 2013. Something about a traumatic encounter with a beleaguered bleacher, a disastrous dust-devil, and pom-pons on a truck. No matter. Mr. Bell returns with Mr. Clarke to court/spark the faithful, and to pimp Erasure's latest, The Violet Flame, at ACL Live.
While the first show is sold out, there are still tickets available for the second night, this Sun., Oct. 19. We hope to be front and center and to not miss one pirouette. Truly.
Welcome to Austin, boys, your most lovely papel picado sugar skull cover art fits right in with what we Texans are up to this time of year, in anticipation of Dia De Los Muertos.
For those who've never experienced the soaring range of Andy Bell live, here's a teeny snippet, a wee sample we caught at the True Colors Tour back in 2007 in Houston. This was the night, the show, and the song that had us pledging eternal adoration. Nothing turns your humble Gay Place into a raging, pearl-clutching gay man better than an Erasure anthem. And see? A pirouette. See you at the Moody, duckies.
