Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe

Artist Yumi Sakugawa draws enlightenment and visits Austin this week

Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe

We mean, Yumi Sakugawa is often drawing enlightenment of one form or another, and now Adams Media has released her new Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe, and the artist will be in town to present it in person.

Could be that Sakugawa is as delightful to hang out with as her book is to read, which is another reason why you'd want to meet her at Austin Books & Comics this very afternoon (from 4-7pm) or at Foxing Quarterly's music-fueled shindig at Cheer Up Charlie's tonight (from 8pm onward) or at Wizard World at the Convention Center this weekend.

But, listen: Sakugawa would have to be extremely damned delightful, have to be almost effervescent with charm, to match her creations: Your Illustrated Guide to Becoming One With the Universe overflows with helpful, simple (yet cosmic) wisdom rendered visual in a scattered, page-spanning collection of delicate and sequential pen drawings, the sort of word-and-picture combination that brought her previous book, I Think I Am in Friend-Love With You, to such immediacy.

We reckon that, wherever Yumi Sakugawa is in Austin this week, her books and zines will be right there with her. So stopping by to say hello and to get a copy or copies for yourself makes perfect sense. We think the universe will think so, too.
