Danzig at Housecore Horror

The Housecore Horror Film Festival remains a place for evil and unique fusions, so it makes perfect sense that the master of horror metal, Glenn Danzig, and metal’s favorite comedian, Brian Posehn, have both been added to the Oct. 23-26 lineup.

Put the litigation, French onion soup, and Fun Fun Fun Fest debacle to one side for just a moment. The Evil Elvis remains one of metal’s great pioneers, Danzig I-IV constituting one of the most perfect runs in any genre. Now add in a special performance of Samhain material, his cult-adored post-Misfits beast.

“Glenn has taken me under his [black] wings since I was a young upstart in the music business and he’s a cool mofo!” announced Festival co-founder Phil Anselmo.

As for Posehn, metal fans may recognize him as the tiny dot on the FFF stage three years ago, telling jokes before Slayer. Now the horn-throwing comedian can be laughed at in the fan-friendlier confines of Emo’s.

The combo metal/horror fest announced its first round of bands last month, with NOLA pioneers Eyehategod, Jason McMaster’s Evil United, mega-industrialist Author & Punisher, Australian extremists Portal, and a special appearance by Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe. The fall weekend now adds masters of universal destruction, Neurosis, Polish tech-death experts Decapitated, and the industrial/tribal aggression of Lustmord and Austin’s own Chant.

Neurosis: Gods of ambient doom, still touring on 2012’s Honor Found in Decay.

Decapitated: Poland’s pioneers of technical death metal, with new album Blood Mantra due just in time for Housecore.

Hobbs’ Angel of Death: Classic Australian thrash metallers celebrate more than a quarter-century.

Lustmord A perfect companion to Author & Punisher, Welsh industrial musician Brian Williams brings his own brand of dark ambient.

King Parrot: As we wrote before their SXSW shows, “Forcibly crossbreeding Turbonegro with The Devil’s Rejects on “Shit on the Liver,” the aggressive thrash/grind monsters are hellbent on restoring the humor of Eighties speed metal.”

Gasmiasma: Extreme crust punk, featuring Pat Bruders of Anselmo’s Down.

Heavy As Texas Another Anselmo ally, with legendary Houston guitarist Marzi Montazeri of Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals in a Black Label Society groove.

Skan: Extreme metal from the glowing embers of Austin’s own Skrew.

Child Bite HHFF 2013 graduates return. The Detroit quartet’s album Monomania is “sense-assaulting art-rock.”

Chant Sometime Die Krupps drummer Bradley Bills back in his percussion-centric incarnation, boosted live by Kristopher Robin.
