Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival

Comedy history was made a little ways out yonder last August 23 when the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival made its debut before a full house at the Austin360 Amphitheatre. Festival organizers just announced the 2014 tour schedule and lineup, and Austin was awarded a seat at the table again – this time as the tour’s final engagement on Sept. 21.

Last summer’s unprecedented 13-date experiment that plucked comedy out of the clubs and theatres and dropped them into the great wide open of venues normally suited for KISS concerts, Easter Sunrise Service, and Yo Gabba Gabba Live featured Dave Chappelle – who turned 40 at the stroke of midnight of the eve he played here – and Flight of the Conchords headlining.

And even though Exhibit 1A in the case against staging stand-up comedy in our nation’s al fresco rock cathedrals came to pass last year in Hartford, Conn., when Chappelle saw no choice but to walk offstage after verbally sparring with some unruly (and undoubtedly soused) patrons, Oddball returns to comb the country at least once more.

This year’s composite lineup is flat-out jaw-dropping, as though Farm Aid put together a comedy jamboree: Louis C.K., Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, Aziz Ansari, Marc Maron, Bill Burr, Dave Attell, Hannibal Buress, Demetri Martin, Jim Gaffigan, Chris Hardwick, Reggie Watts, Jeff Ross, Moshe Kasher, DJ Trauma, Chris D’elia, Rory Scovel, Whitney Cummings, and more have been packaged for your pleasure.

Sounds too good to be true, huh?

Turns out the lineups will vary by city, with between 7-10 headliners performing on a given night. According to the Oddball website, Austin’s haul will include Louis C.K., Silverman, Maron, Buress, Watts, DJ Trauma, and Cummings.

That right there is a payload of one-stop shopping.
