Where the Girls Go/ATX: Queerbomb Edition
Just as most other cities are gearing up for June Prides, and our September Pride seems so far away, a (queer) bomb drops right here in the heart of Austin. That's Queerbomb to be exact, and they're setting it off this weekend. So bust out the glitter, lamé, pasties, bow ties, and fishnets in honor of ATX's alternative, DIY approach to Pride.
Friday: If you love Wendy Davis as much as I do, consider going all out tonight to support her. Equality Texas and The Human Rights Campaign are hosting a pricey fundraiser to help put her in the Governor's seat, and they're doing it in style tonight at the Driskill. (Do you think Wendy knows about Queerbomb? Did anyone bother to tell her? Don't you think she'd look fabulous atop a unicorn marching in the procession with us?!)
Afterwards – to all those ATX femmes – head over to Rio Rita for Femme ATX. A monthly celebration for femmes by femmes. But after 11pm friends, allies, admirers, etc welcome. Might as well invite Wendy to this, too.
Suggestion: Go all out, do what you can, and let's cross fingers and toes to get Wendy Davis elected.
Saturday: Get ready to drop glitter bombs when the party starts at 6pm. Things get going with the rally at 8pm, and the procession (going queerly up Dirty Sixth, because we're takin' it over this night) leaves at 9pm. After dancing in the streets, party hop between the official after party at Pine Street Station, and Popular Slut Club with DJs GirlFriend and C-Bass at Cheer Up Charlie's.
Suggestion: Party hop, cover yourself in glitter, and dance like it's 1999! It's Queerbomb.
Sunday: You may have missed it in all the Queerbombness, but season two of Orange Is the New Black was released in full on Friday. When it comes to show binge-ing, Netflix has a sadistic side.
Suggestion: You’re tired, your legs are sore, your head hurts – call your friends and host an OITNB Party.
See you on the dancefloors this weekend, bbs.
