Goodman Out, Garza In
Road to 10-1 gets a little more crowded
By Michael King, 1:00PM, Tue. Apr. 8, 2014
Later this afternoon, City Council candidate Delia Garza is filing her campaign treasurer designation for District 2 - and her treasurer will be former Mayor Pro Tem Jackie Goodman, who is stepping aside and "enthusiastically" endorsing Garza.
The switch will mean Garza will become the only District 2 candidate to have filed a CTD - at least at the moment - although Edward Reyes has said he will run, and Frank Coniglio is also considering.
Currently, the rapid action is in District 4, where a rush of additional candidates has just expanded the declared field beyond the two CTD filed candidates, Greg Casar and Marco Mancillas. Additional District 4 names mentioned now include: Chelsea Brass (confirmed as candidate); Katrina Daniel (unconfirmed), Monica Guzmán (considering); Sharon E. Mays (filed CTD April 3); Roberto Perez Jr. (considering); Laura Pressley (unconfirmed); Gabe Rojas (confirmed).
And in District 1, previously announced candidate Sam Osemene has designated a treasurer, joining Andrew Bucknall as the CTD-filed candidates in that race.
Meanwhile, in District 3, 2009 Council candidate Perla Cavazos told Newsdesk she has decided not to run this cycle, and 2011 candidate Eric J. Rangel said he will be a candidate.
Newsdesk (and the Elections page) will have more to report on the candidates -- and almost certainly more candidates to report -- in due course.
