Drinking for a Good Cause
Tomorrow is National Drink Beer Day. In honor of this most sacred of days, we’ve put together a host of events to celebrate, all benefiting local nonprofits. Rest assured, you can leave your hangover shame behind – the altruism made you do it.
Happy Hour to Empower: An Evening of Grilled Cheese & Beer
Even though this event isn’t technically on Drink Beer Day, it’s really too good to miss. Plus, it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Join Antonelli's Cheese Shop, Confituras, Baked in Austin, and local brewery Hops & Grain at In.gredients to get a do-good start to your weekend. Enjoy a grilled cheese sandwich, bluegrass, and, of course, a delicious brew. A sandwich/beer combo will will run you $8.95. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Feel Good, a youth driven non-profit working to eliminate hunger.
Fri., Sept. 27, 6pm. In.gredients, 2610 Manor Road. 512/275-6357. in.gredients.com.
Texas Craft Brewers Festival
Arguably the best craft beer festival in Texas, the Texas Craft Brewers Festival (TCBF) will tap over 130 beers at Fiesta Gardens this Saturday. Produced by the Young Men’s Business League of Austin, the festival will benefit Austin Sunshine Camps, a non-profit providing mentorship, education, and personal development for low-income youth throughout Central Texas. Showcasing rare and seasonal offerings, try a Jester King Atrial Rubicite or a Live Oak Helles Rauchbier.
Sat., Sept. 28. 2pm, general admission. 11:30am, VIP. Fiesta Gardens, 2101 Jesse E. Segovia. 512/480-8568. texascraftbrewersfestival.org.
If you can’t make it to TCBF or the other equally philanthropic Austoberfest (see Virginia Wood's preview here), Banger’s has you covered. As part of their 12-day Oktoberfest celebrations, enjoy a sausage eating contest and horse show, live music from Lorelei & Schatzi and Jerry Haisler & the Melody 5, and a special firken tapping. This beer is free until it’s gone with festivities beginning at 11am. Local charities benefiting from Oktoberfest events are Horse Boy Foundation, an organization working to bring the healing effects of horse to families facing Autism, and Austin Pets Alive!
Sat., Sept. 28. 11am. Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden. 79 Rainey, 512/386-1656. bangersaustin.com.
