Texas Cookbook Authors Out of the Kitchen, Into the Bookstore

BookPeople hosts Robb Walsh and Austin Food Blogger Alliance members

Texas cookbook authors have been especially prolific this year. BookPeople (603 N. Lamar) provides recognition for two books from authors with local ties by hosting former Austin Chronicle food editor Robb Walsh as well as cookbook collaborators representing the Austin Food Blogger Alliance.

Robb Walsh's newest book, Barbecue Crossroads: Notes and Recipes from a Southern Odyssey (UT Press, $45, 282 pp.), chronicles his travels across the American South eating barbecue and gathering the stories of the people who prepare it, illustrated with mouth-watering photographs by O. Rufus Lovett. Walsh will be at BookPeople on Wednesday, May 8, at 7pm.

A broad cross-section of the 150-plus membership of the Austin Food Blogger Alliance contributed to the group's first cookbook, demonstrating that a collection of recipes from cooks in a virtual community is the natural evolution of the time-honored practice of community cookbooks. The Austin Food Blogger Alliance Cookbook (History Press, $22.99, 189 pp.) is part of the publisher's American Palate series and represents modern-day Austin very well. Cookbook project manager Addie Broyles will be joined by contributors Natanya Anderson, Megan Myers, photographer Melissa Skorpil, and Chris Perez to discuss the process of putting the book together and sign copies.
