Cinco de Mayo Fiestas Tonight and Tomorrow!
Tonight, May 4, Tamale House East (1707 E 6th Street) hosts a Cinco de Mayo Whole Pig Roast with Chef Cariño Cortez, a third generation member of the San Antonio Mi Tierra Restaurant family.
The festive pop up celebration costs $20, begins at 7pm, and includes menu items such as tender roasted pork, a variety of salsas from Easy Tiger Salsa Bar including Orange-Habanero, accoutrements from El Milagro, sides with fresh organic veggies from Johnson’s Backyard Garden, and many other party favors for your mouth. Fiesta Gardens (2101 Jesse E. Segovia) is the hot spot for the 8th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival hosted by nonprofit organization Fiestas Patrias Austin. Celebrating Mexican and Mexican-American cultures, a variety of Tejano and Conjunto performers will be playing, so bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes. Tasty treats include traditional festival food (hamburgers, brisket, corn on the cob, etc) and other specialty booths will be serving gorditas, tacos, and more. Flat Creek Estate Vineyard and Winery, located just outside Austin in the Hill Country, is offering $60 cases of Muscato for your festivities. Here is their delicious recipe:
Cinco De Mayo Muscato Sangria
3 Bottles of Flat Creek Estate Muscato D'Arancia
½ Cup White Sugar, dissolved in a little hot water
1 Cup Orange Juice
1 Cup Pineapple
3 Oranges, sliced
2 Lemons, sliced into wedges
2 Limes, sliced into wedges
10 Strawberries, cut in half
6 Lychee, peeled, seeded, and cut in half
3 Cans Club Soda
Pour wine in the pitcher...Lightly squeeze the juice from the lemon and lime wedges by hand into the pitcher...Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and orange slices and add sugar...Add the orange juice and pineapple juice - stir...Chill overnight.
Add strawberries and lychee and club soda just before serving.
