No doubt answering the prayers of hundreds of Texas Tech University students jealous of their peers in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston, Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas announced today its plans to expand to the Panhandle town of Lubbock.

According to a press release, the new location will have eight digital screens, each RealD ready, and with 35mm projection in a few auditoriums. Construction began about two months ago, and it's supposed to be ready to go before summer blockbuster season in 2014.

Next door, a standalone bar called Glass Half Full will serve original cocktails and draft and bottled beer, much like the 400 Rabbits does at the Slaughter Lane location here in town. Lubbock's sure come a long way, considering the county was dry until 2009.

And it's not like this is the only location keeping Drafthouse Cinemas busy. Austinites are no doubt on top of the renovations planned for the South Lamar location and its former strip mall surrounds, and the new Lakeline location is slated to open soon. In March, the team announced plans for locations in New Braunfels and El Paso, continuing to expand the empire in its home state.
