Kid Stuff, Part II
Fernando Jones came here two years ago to scout Austin as a potential spot for his popular nonprofit blues camp. Having worked with the young Peterson Brothers from Bastrop, his finding the capital a natural place for a Lone Star location comes as no surprise in his expansion from camps in Chicago and California.
FJBC gathers 120 kids through auditions and teaches them American roots music in the larger setting of a summer camp. This Saturday, May 26, Maria Maria La Cantina (415 Colorado) hosts auditions from 4-6pm, with a fundraiser following 7-8pm. Did someone say silent auction? Jones himself will perform a set of acoustic Chicago blues.
Here's more info about Jones and his efforts, an idea whose time has arrived.
