Half-penny Journalism by guest | hide/show
I have known James Troutman since he arrived at Deady Middle School. I count him as my friend. James has always been, and remains, a child centered educator. Your characterization of him as an "asskicker" was both crude and inaccurate. Much of the article was misleading and poorly researched. I'm sorry to see the Austin Chronicle reduce itself to such poor journalistic standards on as an important a topic as education. You have chosen to be a poor voice for children, parents and taxpayers with this article. 08-24-2007

I worked with this man it was a nightmare. The worst leadership i ever had.

And i have worked for many principals but JAMES TROUTMAN thus far was the worst. He seems to give the impression at first glance that he is prepared to do what is best for the school. That will all change in due time. Yes, he did raise test scores but one must ask oneself how? It wasnt by his great leadership or support for the teachers. Because he had neither. Ask the students they will tell you how!!. That may want to give the Austin ISD keep an eye out for him. He is a very smart man, knows how to get around and make it seem legit! 08-24-2007

Mr. James d. Troutman by WILLIE E. FLOWERS | hide/show
As a former employee with Mr.James D. Troutman at Deady Middle School. I take exception to some of his critics. Austin is truly getting a fine Principal. I worked with him for two of the three years he was at Deady. Mr. Troutman is a dedicated and hard working professional. If you did your job and kept the best interest of the children out front, you will have no problem working with Mr.Troutman. I worked with John Dansby and I simply refused to join the negative system undermining union of Gale Fallon. If these are the types of people interviewed for the article, I can understand the negative tone of the article. I've taught for 12 years and if I could say anything to the teachers at Pierce; without a doubt almost all Principals support the Teachers that Support them.

FUNNY! by guest | hide/show
"Much of the article was misleading and poorly researched. I'm sorry to see the Austin Chronicle reduce itself to such poor journalistic standards on as an important a topic as education."

And this topic differs from any other in this ridiculous excuse for a "newspaper"? No worries fine poster, the only people who really pay any attention to this "rag" are a bunch of whiney leftist in Travis County (and a VERY few Wilco whiners whose opinion matters none). Me, I just love to see how they can screw up a story. The Chronicle is my form of entertainment. Keep up the good work guys! Without you, I would be back reading the National Enquirer.

Wrong tone set by guest | hide/show
I was surprised and dismayed at the tone set by your article about new Pearce Middle School Principal James Troutman. In my position as outside consultant, I found Mr. Troutman to be the type of administrator who made decisions efficiently and worked effectively to get the needs of both staff and students met. During his Houston tenure, Deady Middle School displayed an atmosphere of community and excitement about learning. Many of the parents there had little understanding of the education process, were themselves uneducated and non English speaking. Mr. Troutman did his best to create a welcoming atmosphere for them. When staff or students needed reprimanding, there seemed to be clear reasons. The role of "change agent" is never a popular one. I hope that you will continue to follow Mr. Troutman's contributions to Pearce and to AISD with an eye to accomplishment. Dr. Carol F. Shady Individual by Concerned teacher/parent | hide/show
I worked with Troutman at Deady. Many of the teachers that have said how "professional" he was, had to have been in his inner circle. Many of them came with him from his previous school. They had lighter classloads, most of them taught 6th grade(the easiest in middle school to handle), and many hadnt taught more than 2-3 yrs. In my opinion, he recieved his job due to nepitism. His degree is in GENERAL STUDIES, proving Education wasnt/ ISNT his calling. He is problematic example of UNcaring administrators who care more about TAKS than KIDS. 01-14-2008

I'am a student that has been at Pearce middle sometime now, i was there when he arrived and the year after but Mr.Troutman has been a good principal for those years. But i will no longer have him as a principal for i have graduated this year, and will miss his friendly attitude towards all of us. 06-05-2009

You must be registered to comment. What's the upside?
Here are some ways to look at the bright side of this: 1) you can use a witty screen name that has nothing to do with your real name (as long as no one else has been witty in that exact way before you), 2) you will have to do this only once, and 3) because everyone must register, you'll be able to keep up with your virtual friends and nemeses.  close
