Our very own Arena Football League franchise,
the Austin Wranglers, have had a busy offseason in preparation for a hopeful return to the playoffs. Smarting from an early exit in their first-and-only playoff appearance last year the Wranglers fired coach
Skip Foster shortly after the season ended. Foster made some questionable play-calls in last year's tough playoff loss to
Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul and Austin definitely needed to head in a new direction.
The Wranglers opened the free-agent signing period buy adding former Georgia Force defensive specialist
Nate Coggins.
Coggins has been a difference-maker in the arena league for the rival Force, attended the New York Giants training camp in 2002 (was released), and was a Division II All-American at the University of West Georgia in 2000 and 2001. He signed a two-year deal.
Part-owner Deion Sanders has been staying busy as well. Last week at Barton Creek Square Mall Deion announced the members of the 2007 Lady Wranglers dance squad. The lucky ladies are: Ally, Alyssa, Amanda, Brittani, Elyssa, Heather, Jennifer, Julia, Katrice, Layne, Libby, Megan, Melissa, Michelle, Raina, and Yasmeen. Christina Leggett Neuman serves double-duty as both dancer and team choreographer. I'm glad to see that Deion is getting invloved in all aspects of the organization.
The Wranglers are holding open tryouts on Sunday, December 3. See their Web site for more.
