Villa Muse: Don't Let the Set Door Hit Ya!

 Fri Mar 7, 9:42am , 2008

Won't somebody think of the children?
After their plea to build outside of the city's extra-territorial jurisdiction fell on deaf ears at City Council yesterday, for financial, legal, and environmental reasons (not to mention the fact fully-formed, Mueller-size developments propped up by silent investors don't arrive on council's doorstep fully formed, and oh, we need it passed this afternoon, thankyouverymuch), the folks at Villa Muse sent the stunt-driver around some hairpin curves in the whaaambulance: They sent out a press release saying "the future of the Austin music, film and videogame industries took a huge blow Thursday evening," and with the city's decision, "Villa Muse will enter negotiations with other cities in Texas who have courted the project in recent months."

In the words of Eric Cartman, "screw you guys, I'm going home!"

Economic Indicator Donut Voter Mar 07, 2008 - 10:45 am
We now have confirmation that the local economy is going down: publically-financed real estate scams have returned to the city council dais.

Thank you to Leffingwell, Kim, Dunkerley, and Mayor "Madman" Wynn, the council members who kept the Villa Ruse from becoming the next deal-to-regret-for-future-taxpayers.

It's about time this council quit rolling over for every developer that walks in the door with some cockeyed scheme to avoid taxes and leave future Austinites with a pile of debt. I give a lot of credit to Better Austin Today for the council's new found scepticism toward developers. More power to the BAT PAC - keep the pressure on!

Leffingwell Keeps Austin Normal YEAH BOO LEFFINGWELL Mar 18, 2008 - 01:57 pm
What scam? It's not like they were asking Austin for $70 million in kickbacks to build a David Yurman.

Austin's known about this since October. This wasn't a last minute vote so much as it was a request for an answer.

You haters won your vote. Why are you getting such a high off of kicking someone in the teeth after your pathetic little win?

(Note that the responses to this will include mock "whining," another plug for Leffingwell and Kim, and a toss in about "fat cats" and Austin taxpayers getting screwed. You guys understand that anyone could develop this site into a production tract house neighborhood tomorrow and Austin wouldn't have a say in it at all. They would just get to see what the grid site layout would look like right before they put their obligatory stamp on a properly engineered stormwater plan. This is in the county, fools. Look at all the other crap that has been built out there. Be careful what you wish for, because what you get is a tax-sucking grid neighborhood of little boxes that use more services than they pay out in taxes. Enjoy annexing that.)

Hi stoopid, guest Mar 18, 2008 - 04:00 pm
"Enjoy annexing that"?

If they're using our fire dpartments, roads, utilities, and sewage then yeah, we will have a great time annexing that since it's better than not being able to annex anything at all.

btw, have fun in Tatum or Vidor or Winters or wherever it is y'all are threatening to move to! Sure are a WHOLE LOT of creative people out there, I'm sure they'll do a great job on that Clapper commercial!
