Greg Abbott's Cash for Kids

 Wed Nov 28, 2:45pm , 2007

Attorney General Abbott: All about the kids
Talk about your good news/bad news moments. Attorney General Greg Abbott this morning proudly announced that, in the fiscal year ending Aug. 31, his office had collected $2.3 billion in child support. That's up $243 million from the previous year and the fifth year in a row that Abbott's people have managed to hunt down more delinquent payers.

Abbott has called "protecting Texas children … our top priority," and the child-support division has always been one of Abbott's favored departments since he took the post. That paid off in plaudits from the National Child Support Enforcement Association in August when the Texas system was named best child-support program in the nation. According to Abbott's press release on the occasion, that seems to be judged purely in financial terms, of how many dollars per employee were collected ($760,000 against the national average of $396,000) and how many parents (270,000) were taken off Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

If you're looking for the bad news, it's hard to find an upside to the fact that the Attorney General's Office had to hunt down $2.3 billion in child support. There are a lot of broken homes and unpaid bills in those stats.

NOW I HAVE TO GO ON STATE SUPPORT IN W.I. TO TRY AND RAISE MY CHILD.THIS JUST IS NOT RIGHT.MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON DOING THE CORRECT THING FOR THE CHILD NOT FOR THE GREEDY PARENT.OH BY THE WAY NOW SHE IS VERY HAPPY& LOVED CHILD WHICH IS A STRAIGHT A STUDENT.IF THIS COULD MAKE ITS TO MR GREG ABBOTT I REALLY LIKE TOO KNOW HIS RESPONCE ON WHY THIS IS TAKING SO LONG TO GET ME HELP.I DO NOT WANT ANY THING FROM THE MOTHER JUST STOP TAKING AWAY FROM MY CHILD.

Why Shuld Greg Abbott remain the Texas Attorney General??? Single mom, fed up Sep 29, 2008 - 10:29 pm
Do you think he should stay or go? I think it is long past time for Greg Abbott to get the boot. When I tell people about the way Greg Abbott's Office for Child Support has messed up over and over again on my child support case (for the past 13 years) they stand back with their mouths hung open. And when I tell them about how Greg Abbott's Office is holding over $4000.00 of my childs suppot money because they say that the father has to be given the chance to dispute it, they are floored. And when I tell them about how the father is over $53000.00 behind, in the national gard, not a US citizen and has already been jailed several times for non payment of child support, that's when they start to get mad. How can this kind of behavior and action go on in this country in this day and age? Because people like Greg Abbott allow it! I have tried to e-mail Mr. Abbott several times and I have called his office several times, I get no responce back. He does not care about the people of this state and he cares less about the children of this state. HIt him where it will hurt. Kick him out!!!
