UPDATE: Where Did Mike McCaul's Cyberpresence Go?

 Fri Oct 24, 9:52pm , 2008

Did Michael McCaul get booted from the Internet?
On a post earlier today, we detailed the story of Republicans using copyrighted materials, without authorization and possibly illegally. One particular case involved Republican Austin Congressman Michael McCaul reprinting an article in its entirety from Democratic blogger Vince Leibowitz's Capitol Annex and using it to attack Democratic challenger Larry Joe Doherty at a website with the URL www.thereallarryjoe.com. Leibowitz demanded that McCaul remove the article, McCaul's campaign refused.

I was just informed by a source familiar with the story that the "thereallarryjoe.com got shut down by GoDaddy due to Vince's efforts." I'm still trying to confirm that, but I can say that as of this posting, neither that URL or McCaul's main campaign website, www.michaelmccaul.com, are working.

UPDATE: Sunday morning, the site is back online, although it's much more simple than before – no content other than his lone TV commercial, which makes no mention of Doherty.

You are correct. Vince Leibowitz Oct 25, 2008 - 01:22 pm
After the McCaul campaign declined to remedy the problem, I took the next step in the DMCA resolution process, which was contacting the registrar/host of the domain. In this case, it was GoDaddy. GoDaddy notified me yesterday afternoon that they had taken down thereallarryjoe.com.
