At the height of the Great Depression, an adventure begins...
They're back. Those sludge-monsters from the planet Zygon are invading Austin again, but this time they're armed with an even more dangerous weapon: original artwork by the incomparable Tim Doyle. The story of Pulitzer-winner Molly Sloan and her intrepid assistant Timmy Mendez has toured the nation in the form of a radio drama, but now...
Imagine 1,250 hand-drawn full-color action-packed images projected one-by-one onto a huge screen! Imagine three actors voicing dozens of characters! Imagine one sound engineer creating hundreds of sound effects before your very eyes! Imagine being swept away by the incredible original music! Imagine a story that transports you from Rumania to Scotland to Tunis to the far reaches of outer space! But wait! You don't need to imagine it...

After a long summer of camping out in some of Austin's finest recording studios, we have emerged with our first full-length album, simply titled "The Bright Light Social Hour." They would now like nothing more than to celebrate and share it with us all. Their inaugural record release show in partnership with Soundcheck Magazine, The Austin Chronicle's Chrontourage, Republic of Austin, TwoGroove and Flip Scene will be held at Antone's on Friday, September 17th. We've assembled an outstanding bill with Brass Bed and The Frontier Brothers. Joseph Mirasole will kick off the evening with a DJ set. And, of course, the new record will be available to purchase for the first time.

Aztlan's production of "INFLUENCES: A Cinematic Showdown" restages silver screen dance icons of classic and contemporary Latino inspired cinema. In this two-hour full-length program company dancers revisit and recreate important original dances that have defined Latino culture in cinema. They also illustrate how dance has shaped and influenced contemporary Latino popular culture. From the classic cinema, dances of Ricardo Montalban, Cantinflas, Tongolele, and Robert Rodriquez' Desperado-inspired characters, Aztlan links the 2D frames of cinema to forge a third dimension of depth and meaning that narrates a story of cultural influences, intersections, and continuity. Aztlan demonstrates how performative dance as an embodiment of cinematic culture directly influences and impacts the way we connect and interact with each other. It's dance, Aztlan style!
