Vegetarian and Vegan Spots in Austin

Anyone with special dietary demands or restrictions can tell you how challenging it is to enjoy a simple evening out for dinner, much less weeks of dining on the road. Vegetarians and vegans may find it particularly difficult to locate satisfying meals when they travel or move to a new city, but trust us, Austin is not one of those veggie-forsaken places. For those of you who've recently moved to Austin and also for the hungry hordes who descend on River City every spring for SXSW, several Chronicle contributors and staff members have spent the past few weeks researching your best vegan and vegetarian dining options. Between restaurants that classify themselves as vegetarian, ethnic joints with a great many vegetarian options, and fine dining outlets eager to accommodate your veggie requests, Austin is a very vegetarian-friendly kind of town. With all these choices, you can eat meatless for weeks without duplication.
