Wish List

Give 'til it helps: Part 1

Wish List

Dear Austin,

Our society is what we make it. Now we can all blow hard on whatever political philosophy justifies our lifestyle best, but bottom line? We create our society, and we create our society's problems. No blame. No guilt. No finger-pointing. Just ownership. Culpability. Responsibility.

Yup. And we can sit by as the few angels who already heal so many of our self-inflicted wounds throughout the year shoulder the load, or we can take every opportunity to support their efforts.

Each year, The Austin Chronicle invites local nonprofits to submit lists of the things they need to serve our community. We edit these as space dictates and encourage you to research the details on what specific kinds/brands/sizes/conditions of things are needed (some are legal mandates, so do please call). Here are a few hints: Please don't dump off old or broken items. They always need computer stuff, copies, printing, and your cash and love (i.e., volunteer hours).

So go to it, dear Austin. Show the love to our community givers, and let's support the good they do all year long. – Kate X Messer

List compiled by X, Meghan Ruth Speakerman, and Richard Whittaker

Part 2 runs next week in print, and the overflow and any last-minute additions will appear online. (There is still time to submit your list at wishlist@austinchronicle.com.)
