The Game On Austin event this Thursday, Oct 15, is meant to be a friendly affair, but we just can't help ourselves and want to include a competitive element for a few select guests. We're signing up 16 competitors to test their metal in a head to head Rock Band tournament!
Ahhhh ACL... What started as a modest little event to promote a public television show has expanded into one of the largest, most reputable music festivals in the United States. Sure there are tons of other music fests in Austin all the friggin' time but ACL has the unique identity of being huge but without the overwhelming flood of the music biz crowd.

South by Southwest 2010 may be 6 months away but that doesn't mean that you have to forget about it completely. The SXSW PanelPicker is now live and will allow you to vote from a selection of panels. You can vote "thumbs up" if you like it and "thumbs down" if you don't.
Here's step-by-step instructions on how to use the SXSW PanelPicker for voting:
* Go to: http://panelpicker.sxsw.com
* Create a free account by clicking the link in the upper left hand corner.
* Browse or search panels and click on either the green "thumbs up" or the red "thumbs down", depending on whether you think the session is a good fit for the 2010 event. You can narrow the search criteria further by clicking "Search options" at the top of the page.
* Keep in mind, the PanelPicker won't save any votes unless you are logged in. You can even change your mind until the deadline on Sept 4. Users can also make comments on individual proposals.
It has been a long two months since we started the Sound Wars online battle of the bands. We have met a TON of great new bands that we didn't know before, more importantly, we have discovered a huge assortment of great local music! Though, much like The Highlander, "there can be only one".
As the dust settles on the final battle we are happy to announce that The Tiny Tin Hearts have defeated Sarah Sharp in the final Sound Wars battle. Along with the fame and notoriety that comes with winning The Tiny Tin Hearts will be performing in a special slot at the 19th Annual Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival on August 30 at Waterloo Park!
Congratulations to The Tiny Tin Hearts and a special thanks to everyone who participated and fought so hard for their music!

Austin is full of fantastic chances to delight your senses but this event will be one that you remember for a long time. The Berry Fairy will be hosting a special "flavor tripping" event tonight at the Belmont!
If you've never heard of flavor tripping before, here is the scoop from the press release:
The Berry Fairy is bringing Miracle Berry Flavor Tripping to Austin, TX.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the local charity We Are Learning.
Miracle berries are a native West African fruit that have an extraordinary effect when consumed. The "miracle" is that everything sour and bitter eaten afterwards will taste sweet for up to 2 hours. Lemons will taste like lemonade, vinegar like apple juice, goat cheese like cream cheese frosting, and stout beers like chocolate milk!
Admission includes one miracle berry and a bacchanalian banquet of foods specially selected for the flavor tripping. Tito’s Vodka will be sponsoring a mad-mixologist vodka bar for guests to create their own taste-defying tonics.

Chrontourager Lauren made her way down to The Ritz this weekend to celebrate the life of the late great Michael Jackson. Here is what she had to say!
"I never cared for Michael Jackson either way before he passed away last Thursday, June 25th, 2009. However, when I learned that the Alamo Drafthouse was having a memorial sing-along to the King of Pop, I felt like I had to go. I suddenly had this inescapable urge to sing and dance dance dance to the man's music. I knew that being at a place like The Ritz, with the audio and visual of MJ, and a room full of people who felt the same way would be something close to heavenly. And it was. Not a soul sat as we watched epic music video after music video. The entire crowd danced and sang and got up on stage and butchered every dance step to "Thriller". It was beautiful. After coming down from my high of the evening, I thought to myself, "If only when we all die the entire world got up and danced."
Voting has officially begun for the Sound Wars digital battle of the bands. There are currently over 150 bands participating in the first week of competition. After the first week, that number will be reduced down and those with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated. Be sure to vote each day for your favorite song to make sure that they get pushed on to the next round!
