It's time once again to honor the music that makes Austin the live music capital of the world! Votes from this year's
Austin Chronicle Music Poll are being tabulated, and the winners will be announced at the 28th annual
Austin Music Awards on Saturday, March 20, at the Austin Music Hall, the ending celebration to South by Southwest Music.
The evening begins with the 30s string band sound of
Geoff Muldaur & the Texas Sheiks featuring
Jim Kweskin,
Bruce Hughes,
Cindy Cashdollar,
John Nicholas,
John Chipman,
Suzy Thompson, and
Floyd Domino, performing in honor of fallen Sheik
Stephen Bruton. Other acts include 80s New Wave power trio
The Explosives with guests
Peter Lewis of Moby Grape and
Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival; Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist
Sarah Jarosz; and an all-star Soul Jam hosted by R&B powerhouse outfit
Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears featuring
Blues Boy Hubbard of the Jets. Just added to the evening is beloved songwriter
Will Sexton and orchestral pop of
Mother Falcon. Guest presenters include
Chris Frantz and
Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads, and the Mavericks'
Raul Malo.
Andy Langer returns as host of the evening.
The Music Awards are presented by
The Austin Chronicle and SXSW, co-sponsored by 93.3 KGSR, and benefit the SIMS Foundation.
Tickets go on sale at Waterloo Records on February 26 - $15 in advance, $20 night of show. Your SXSW badges and wristbands include entry into the show at the Austin Music Hall.
