Austin Music Awards

Mark your calendar for the 2009-10 Austin Music Awards on Saturday, March 20, at the Austin Music Hall

It's time once again to honor the music that makes Austin the live music capital of the world! Votes from this year's Austin Chronicle Music Poll are being tabulated, and the winners will be announced at the 28th annual Austin Music Awards on Saturday, March 20, at the Austin Music Hall, the ending celebration to South by Southwest Music.

The evening begins with the 30s string band sound of Geoff Muldaur & the Texas Sheiks featuring Jim Kweskin, Bruce Hughes, Cindy Cashdollar, John Nicholas, John Chipman, Suzy Thompson, and Floyd Domino, performing in honor of fallen Sheik Stephen Bruton. Other acts include 80s New Wave power trio The Explosives with guests Peter Lewis of Moby Grape and Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival; Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Sarah Jarosz; and an all-star Soul Jam hosted by R&B powerhouse outfit Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears featuring Blues Boy Hubbard of the Jets. Just added to the evening is beloved songwriter Will Sexton and orchestral pop of Mother Falcon. Guest presenters include Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads, and the Mavericks' Raul Malo. Andy Langer returns as host of the evening.

The Music Awards are presented by The Austin Chronicle and SXSW, co-sponsored by 93.3 KGSR, and benefit the SIMS Foundation.

Tickets go on sale at Waterloo Records on February 26 - $15 in advance, $20 night of show. Your SXSW badges and wristbands include entry into the show at the Austin Music Hall.
