"Before becoming a mother I had no concept of little children or how any of us have come into this world, as if I just sprouted." The John L. Warfield Center presents Angela Kariotis' new show this Thursday & Friday.
Annie: A review

The veteran of many Annies, I nonetheless was excited about taking my ten-year-old son – not my daughter, this time – to opening night in Austin of the 30th Anniversary ANNIE Tour. The boy's level of interest: He asked me how much the tickets cost, and when I told him $150 (a lie), he offered to give me the money out of his bank account if he didn't have to go.

The Harry Ransom Center is perhaps best known for its insanely impressive literary holdings (Gutenberg Bible, anyone?), but it also has an ever-growing trove of movie-related treasures, too. Hot on the heels of its acquisition of Detour actress Ann Savage's collection comes news that the HRC's Robert De Niro archive is now open to researchers and the public. The collection – which is estimated to be worth more than $5 million – includes annotated scripts and correspondence and, rather intriguingly, a whole host of makeup and costume-related goods, such as the iconic boxing robe De Niro wore as Jake La Motta in Raging Bull (see photo).

Sad news for fans of Austin film and stage: The body of local actor Lou Perryman was discovered in his home on Thursday by Austin police, working off of information provided by a man who is now being held in custody. According to News 8 Austin, 36-year-old Seth Christopher Tatum turned himself in Thursday morning, confessing to attacking Perryman and also stealing his car:

Artistic duo Samuel Boutruche and Benjamin Moreau, who go under the alias Kolkoz, have created a group of new works composed entirely of concentric frames. The gilded edge is the content. A craft project for Brandeis after they've sold off all their art? Hmmm?

No one likes to bitch - But no one likes to pay $10 for parking, either.
It's a Privilege to Park

If you're headed to a show at the newly refurbished Bass Concert Hall &ndash or the not-refurbished McCullough Theatre or Bates Recital Hall, for that matter &ndash be sure to pack an extra Hamilton for stashing your car. All that free parking that you used to be able to score in the large, typically empty lots by the LBJ Library and the School of Public Affairs are a thing of the past. The lots are now manned by attendants, and if you don't have a UT permit, you have to pay $10 to park there.

Heyd Fontenot's paintings are currently gracing the walls of Art Palace for a monographic show titled "Business in the Front, Party in the Back." Besides the clever title, a colloquialism for the common North-American mullet, the show is at once an adherence and a departure for Fontenot.

I can make it to rehearsal on time. I rarely miss the start of a show. But when it comes to technology, I am forever running behind. Last guy on his block to get a cell phone. Still not plugged in to Facebook, much less Myspace. Still using a hand crank to start the ol' flivver.
