Adrian & the Sickness

Strapped with a Gibson SG and donning dreadlocks, Adrian Conner is first and foremost a shredder, playing with a technical proficiency that tops many of her male counterparts. She's also the lead guitarist of Seattle-based Hell’s Belles, an all-female AC/DC tribute band, going note for note and move for move with Angus Young. In Austin, Conner fronts the like-minded barroom blitz of Adrian & the Sickness, backed by bassist Heather Webb and drummer Nina Singh. Both the trio’s 2005 eponymous local debut and follow-up, Adrian for President, display an impressive variety of styles, dappling in everything from the Clash’s reggae rock to Sex Pistols' punk, and of course, testosterone-fueled classic rock. The Sickness' rock edge made them perfect running mates with Patrice Pike, whose local stock rose considerably after her appearance on the reality series Rock Star: Supernova. Through Pike, the Sickness hooked up with local native Kathy Valentine of the Go-Go's in 2007 for a killer read of Golden Earring’s classic “Radar Love.” The band followed that with a DVD, Get Up! Get Out!, capturing a ferocious set at Momo’s in December 2006. – Austin Powell

As led by iconic frontwoman Patrice Pike and guitar guru Wayne Sutton, Sister 7 gained national audience in the Nineties not because of its funk-rock hybrid, but because the group wrote rock-solid jam jump-offs that continue to resonate locally two decades after forming. An old favorite playing a new room, the local quartet breaks ground at the new One-2-One Bar, transplanted from Downtown to South Lamar.
