05/22/09 @ Continental ClubCedric Burnside & Lightnin’ Malcolm
“Look at those eyes; he’s got the world in his eyes,” Susan Antone once spoke of blues guitarist R.L. Burnside. If genes are any indication, his drummer grandson, Cedric, has the world eating out of his hand. Teamed with Mississippi guitarist Lightnin’ Malcolm, the funky, stripped-down rhythms of their
2 Man Wrecking Crew more than live up to the title. Chili Cold Blood opens.

01/11/08 @ Ruta MayaRock & Roll Benefit for Jennifer
A blazing, 10-act battalion comes to the aid of Ruta Maya promoter/bartender Jennifer Marchand, who sustained serious injuries in a November auto-pedestrian accident. From 7:30pm ’til closing, big-hearted locals like Amplified Heat, Chili Cold Blood, Summer Wardrobe, Carolyn Wonderland, the Alice Rose, Murdocks, Tony Scalzo, Jade Day, Paul Minor, Ralph White, and the requisite “surprise guests” brew up a mind-walloping pot of pure rock goodness to benefit one of their own. Eight dollar suggested donation
GREG BEETS
02/17/07 @ BeerlandR.L. Burnside Tribute
When the late, great R.L. Burnside first visited Austin in the Nineties, he’d sit back in a chair and grin at the activity around him, amazed and maybe a little embarrassed by the attention. It’s easy to imagine that grin even bigger when blues gurus Chili Cold Blood, James Brown channeler Black Joe Lewis, One Man Band John Schooley, and many more raise a can of whup-ass in his honor.

01/03/07 @ Ruta MayaLed Zeppelin Hoot
In August, it was only rock & roll at Ruta Maya’s Rolling Stones Hoot. Only. If the South Congress ashram’s Zeppelin trample leverages only half the custard pie, then “Rock & Roll” will go over like the proverbial lead balloon. Chili Cold Blood, Tia Carrera, Lomita, Amplified Heat, Golden Arm Trio, Tammany Hall, Golden Bear, and many more locals reiterate why Richard Linklater’s
Dazed & Confused defines Austin’s “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp.” Kicks off at 6pm with a Zep/Yardbirds happy hour.

Chili Cold Blood, White Ghost Shivers
Cold blood, hot licks
08/05/06 @ Ruta MayaPaul Minor, Chili Cold Blood
Paul Minor may have booked your band into the Hole in the Wall, ran sound at the show, shared the bill in one of his multiple bands, and even sang at your wedding, but not until this year did he release a solo album. He’s corrected this oversight with the flickering
Shadow Figure, a reflective reminder that some things are worth waiting for. Minor leads off his own CD release at 9:30pm, before Summer Wardrobe’s autumnal guitar reveries and Chili Cold Blood’s whiskey-craving blues.
CHRISTOPHER GRAY
07/02/06 @ Red Eyed Fly

01/27/06 @ BeerlandShake Your Ass Records Revue
Shake Your Ass Records is the Italian home for all things Austin. Celebrating the release of
Rock ‘n’ Roll Motherfucker Redux, local pedal steel trio Chili Cold Blood headlines with a searing mix of blues, country, and rock. Local garage rock supergroup This Damn Town debuts their
This Time 7-inch, and Possessed by Paul James brings the singular fire of his self-titled LP to the stage. Black Joe Lewis & Cool Breeze open with some old-school soul off their SYA self-titled 7-inch. The label that lives up to its name.

Chili Cold Blood
Happy hour in the beer garden with some of the best garage blues in town.
10/26/05 @ BeerlandThe Tough & Lovely, the Crack Pipes
It’s no coincidence that both the Tough & Lovely and Fat Possum’s Heartless Bastards hail from Ohio (Columbus and Cincinnati, respectively). The concrete basements of Midwest winters scream out with frustration and release. But while the Bastards’ Erika Wennerstrom growls, the T&L’s Lara Yazvac seduces like those Fifties girl groups gone by. The T&L’s debut,
Born of the Stars (Spoonful), is a solid go-go-rama: some fast, some slow, but all sweaty. Local garage dwellers the Crack Pipes support with the cracklin’ blues of Chili Cold Blood.

Possessed by Paul James, Chili Cold Blood, Walter Daniels, and more tout the fallen blues legend.
09/22/05 @ The Scoot Inn
Chili Cold Blood, the Texas Sapphires
A pre-ACL event with the long-tall, steel tunes of Chili Cold Blood, the traditional country of the Texas Sapphires, and the Waxploitation crew spinning soul all night.
08/09/05 @ Continental Club
Chili Cold Blood, Grady
Mixing honky-tonk, blues, and post-punk, Chili Cold Blood rolls in the dirt after Grady’s blues.
07/27/05 @ BeerlandThis Damn Town, John Schooley & His One Man Band
While This Damn Town used to refer to Dallas (and rightfully so), the fourpiece now claims Austin as its own, adding Manikin drummer Alyse Mervosh and Tom Kodiak of the Kodiaks. Alex Cuervo’s slurred vox and slide guitar drive the band down a winding, blues-rock, dusty road. Supporting This Damn Town for their local debut are locals John Schooley & His One Man Band, Chili Cold Blood, and Possessed by Paul James, a fiddle/banjo/guitar player who knows what it’s like growing up Mennonite.

06/22/05 @ Ruta MayaSouth Austin Hoedown
The South Congress coffee shop presents another monthly full-moon shindig, but this one’s different; envision Lynyrd Skynyrd fronted by Ricky Skaggs. Trainwreck Washington gets the party started with locals Ghostwriter, Chili Cold Blood’s pedal-steel blues, Cooper’s Uncle’s mandolin, and the truck-stop rock of Scott H. Biram headlining. All proceeds donated to SafePlace. Time to stock up on whiskey.

The local dirty blues trio preaches, Jesus' Comin' ... I'm the Fuck You Up Man.
04/30/05 @ Antone'sAin't Misbehavin'/The Fabulous Thunderbirds
Think of this bill as something for everyone. There’s the remember-when nostalgia of Austin’s Ain’t Misbehavin’, reviving their quirky sound from the Seventies for an early evening DVD/CD recording at 6pm. Kim Wilson headlines the evening, herding his Thunderbirds to the stage for the power blues that made them famous in the Seventies and Eighties. Supporting at 10pm, it’s the street savvy "black and blues" of Chili Cold Blood, the young local trio that’s been kicking old blues’ ass and taking names.

04/02/05 @ Continental ClubThe Lone Star Rod & Kustom Roundup
The fourth annual Lone Star Rod & Kustom Roundup expands its traditional
Continental Club base onto South Congress and beyond. Friday night kicks things off with honky-tonk from Dale Watson and 1100 Springs at
Jo’s Hot Coffee;
Trophy’s hosts Casey Just & the PsykoPhoniks, Herman the German, and High School Caesar; and the Continental gets greasy with Shaun Young, Barfield, and Southern Culture on the Skids. Saturday the show motors to
Fiesta Gardens where you can gawk at the slick rides while listening to the blues and twang of Bill Kirchen, Grady, Gary Clark Jr., Redd Volkaert, and Junior Brown. Later Jane Bond and Chadd Thomas & the Crazy Kings take over Jo’s; Hellapeno, Honky, and Bleed are at Trophy’s; and SCOTS again headline at the Continental along with appearances from Marti Brom, Red Light Burlesque, and Chili Cold Blood. Sunday things head north to
Flyrite Choppers, where bikes take the spotlight along with Honky, Crow, and the Bad Rackets. As if that weren’t enough, things wrap with Junior Brown revving up his guit-steel and recording a couple of shows at the Continental on Sunday and Monday nights.
