"Love and Morality: The Films of Eric Rohmer" is an eight-film survey of films by the cerebral French master. The fifth entry in Rohmer's Moral Tales, Claire's Knee is perhaps the director's best-known and best-liked film. It centers on a soon-to-be-married man who is hurtled into an intrigue with a young girl for the entertainment of novelist seeking plot ideas. Instead, the man becomes fixated on the knee of the girl's younger sister. As Proust had his madeleine, so too Rohmer has Claire's knee.
