Members of the Austin chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier are grieving the loss of their president, Denice Woods, who died of cancer recently. The addition of multiple trailers from one vendor and the transition into brick-and-mortar is further evidence of the evolution in our vibrant local food trailer scene. Take Micklethwait Craft Meats (1309 Rosewood), for instance. They added a party/special-events trailer for the official trailer food court during South by Southwest and now use it for catering. Current plans call for them to add a third trailer at another location, which will sell deli meats and sandwiches. Tom Micklethwait and new employee Bobby Lovelett (formerly of Vespaio) will head to New York City in July to check out the deli scene there and return to open their deli trailer soon afterward. The guys at Micklethwait are also expanding their days and hours of operation; go by the barbecue trailer Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11am-8pm, and Sundays, 11am-3pm.

In other barbecue trailer news, Mark Avalos of SLAB BBQ (W. 24th & San Antonio) has added a mobile food truck for corporate lunch service and event catering (look for them at this weekend's RedFest), and he's moving up to a brick-and-mortar spot, as well. By midsummer, he expects to be smoking meats and preparing sides in the former Texas Rib Kings (9012 Research Ste. C-4) location. While he plans to keep the campus-area trailer in operation, the new spot will be a full-service restaurant with foods made from scratch and products from local vendors, including Maine Root sodas, Moonshine Sweet Tea, L'il Mama's Buns, and award-winning pies from Cutie Pies.

And last, but certainly not least, the Vasquez sisters of Veracruz All Natural will soon have three trailers and a brick-and-mortar outlet. Aficionados of their First Plates award-winning migas taco will be pleased to know their current trailers (1704 E. Cesar Chavez, 1700 E. Sixth) will soon be joined by another Veracruz trailer in the yard at South Austin's upcoming Radio Coffee & Beer (4208 Manchaca Rd.) as well as their own brick-and-mortar outlet (2301 E. Cesar Chavez) with an expanded menu that will include enchiladas, sides, and a juice bar.

For the lightning round: Noble Sandwiches (4805 Burnet Rd.) has added beer and wine to its menu... Travaasa Austin (13500 FM 2769) has added a new bar, where they will offer mixology classes and make craft cocktails using herbs and flowers from the spa's organic farm... Fans of the wines of Flat Creek Estate will be pleased to know they've opened a new tasting room in the heart of Marble Falls. Flat Creek Enoteca (112 U.S. Hwy. 281) is a wine shop and tasting room featuring wine-friendly, light fare (sandwiches, salads, pizzas) and a wood-fired oven. Initially, the shop will only carry Flat Creek wines and some labels newly imported from northern Italy, but depending on sales, they would like to add some other Texas wines to their inventory.
