Fonda San Miguel (2330 W. North Loop) Long recognized as one of the finest Mexican restaurants in the country, Fonda combines fabulous Interior Mexican food with a museum-quality folk art collection and a relaxing and colorful ambience.

Ruby's BBQ (512 W. 29th) Awesome, hand-crafted Texas barbecue made with hormone- and antibiotic-free beef, sausage, ribs, and chicken, accompanied by extraordinarily good side dishes.

Curra's Grill (614 E. Oltorf) This beloved, inexpensive South Austin dive is one of the best Mexican places in the state; extensive "any time" Mexican breakfast, perfect tamales, and positively gourmet margaritas.

Thai Fresh (909 W. Mary) This little neighborhood place serves authentic Thai food made with organic, locally-sourced ingredients. It also boasts a full coffee bar and a gluten-free bakery case.

The Frisco Shop (6801 Burnet Rd.) The last bastion of a thriving restaurant empire, the Frisco is pure Texas diner, complete with amazing chicken-fried steak and wonderful homemade pies. Fabulous for American breakfast.

The Noble Pig (11815 620 N. #4) This artisan sandwich shop bakes its own bread, makes its own charcuterie, and blends its own condiments, slaws, and sides. Like a deli in heaven.

Drink.Well Pub (207 E. 53rd) Craft cocktails mixed by renowned bartenders, accompanied by pub classics made inspirational with seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients and expert chefs.

El Meson (2038 S. Lamar; 5808 Burleson Rd.) A relative newcomer on South Lamar, but already a byword for authentic regional Mexican cuisine and lavish tequila bar.
