Cafe Lago
1200 Lakeway Drive, 261-8141Mon-Fri, 7am-4pm; Sat, 7:30am-2pm; Sun, 8am-2pm (serving breakfast only)
No sooner had we published our previous lakeside dining guide than we heard from the owner of Cafe Lago, alerting us to the fact we'd overlooked her charming little coffeehouse restaurant. It was a serious oversight, considering Cafe Lago is just about the only place on Lake Travis to get a decent latte, but an understandable one, considering it's not the easiest place to find. Turn off Lakeway Drive into the Lakeway Village Shopping Center and drive down to the west end of the lower strip of buildings. You'll be rewarded with fresh, delicious breakfast food (huge, super breakfast burritos, eggs, and pancakes) plus a healthy and inviting selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches that far surpass the standard burger options at most area lunch spots. The menu is complemented by refreshing smoothies and slushes, tempting shakes (espresso mocha, chocolate peanut butter) and a full array of good coffee drinks. If you're hungry for something fresh and light paired with a cool iced mocha latte, go to the trouble to find this pleasant little place.
