AC: Why Southwestern?
Tyler Pratt: I was offered the most financial aid at Southwestern. It has been incredibly challenging and writing-intensive. The small class sizes allow students to have good relationships with their professors. Southwestern University is the oldest university in Texas.
Favorite On-Campus Study Spot
The third floor of the A. Frank Smith Jr. Library Center is superquiet and has nice, secret desks, and chairs that are perfect for researching and writing for hours.
Best-Kept Campus Secret
Career Services. Students don't think to use them, even though they are told over and over that they should. Career Services has ... [a] wealth of information that will help you gain real-world experience through class credit internships. They will make your résumé look awesome, and it's completely free.
Survival Tips for Incoming Students
• Think about joining the Greek life or another organization. There are also lots of on-campus charity/volunteer organizations.
• Talk with advisers frequently
• Commuters: Take 10am classes and carpool
• Pack lunch and snacks to save money
• Use class breaks to study or complete homework
• Coffee is your friend
