Blues on the Green: Sweet Spirit and the Suffers

Between last year’s instant Top 10 LP debut Cokomo and this spring’s Best of 2016 shoo-in Pile from A Giant Dog, Sabrina Ellis remains Austin’s indie-scene queen. From the birth of local punk in 1980 to the pre-millennial post-grunge movement, the homegrown music landscape has given rise to myriad Debbie Harry/Patti Smith stand-ins, but none as adept at coating pop with a theatrical DIY accelerant destined for notability outside our city limits.
