Speed Racer Standing Still

By the early 1900s, Art Deco styling was permeating into every aspect of international society from architecture to fashion. On very few avenues did the industrial designers make such bold statements as they did in the lines of luxury automobiles. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston explores the beauty and opulence of this mixture of practicality and fantasy in the new exhibit "Sculpted in Steel: Art Deco Automobiles and Motorcycles, 1929-1940." The show features 14 rare cars and three motorcycles, along with photographs and videos for an indepth look at the era that will leave you never looking at the automobile the same again.

Feb. 21-May 30, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet, www.mfah.org

Gus & Call Revisited

It has been 30 years since Larry McMurtry’s novel, Lonesome Dove won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1986, and 27 years since the TV miniseries won 7 Emmys and we’re still talking about it. If you want to get a Gus and Call fix, go to any one of five museum in Fort Worth and Albany to remember how the west was won, or at least how it was filmed. Visit www.lonesomedovereunion.com for details.
