SXSW Lands Glenn Greenwald

By Monica Riese, December 12, 2013, 11:50am, SXSW

There was plenty of big news in 2013.

Between the Royal Baby, the Boston Marathon bombings, the new pope, Paula Deen, and Obamacare, it's been an incredibly busy 12 months. But the story that made perhaps the biggest splash – and could have the biggest ripples for years to come – was that of Edward Snowden.

The former National Security Agency contractor leaked countless documents detailing the inner workings of several of the nation's most secret spy programs, including the now-infamous PRISM; the revelations those documents provide will affect international policy on privacy and surveillance for decades to come. And they made their way to the public eye thanks to now-former The Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald.

There may not be many print columnists and reporters whose names the public knows by heart (or if there are, don't break it to me), but Greenwald's is now a textbook name in discussions of journalism, activism, and the power of the Web.

And now, he's speaking in Austin.

South by Southwest Interactive announced this morning that the journo would speak on Monday, March 10, 2014, with Personal Democracy Media co-founder Micah Sifry in a conversation about the ongoing NSA story and the state of journalism. Read the complete press release here.

Greenwald joins keynoters Anne Wojcicki (23andMe), Adam Savage (Mythbusters), and hundreds of others slated for the March conference. Stay tuned to our coverage of the ever-expanding cast of characters with our SXSW coverage here.
