X Games Rally at Capitol Building

By James Renovitch, June 3, 2013, 3:28pm, The Score

The honor of hosting the ESPN Summer X Games has been narrowed down to four cities: Charlotte, N.C., Chicago, Detroit, and, of course, Austin. How can we prove to the ESPN reps coming next week that we're the sickest (that's what the kids say, right?)? How about a big party at the Capitol? Maybe that'll help; maybe it won't. But we're doing it anyway; just cuz.

The rally is scheduled for this Wednesday, June 5, from 6:30 to 10pm at the State Capitol, and will feature live performances from WATSKY, Candyland, Zeale, P-TEK, Tee-Double, and DJ Supreme. Local BMX trickster, and repeat X Games medalist, Aaron Ross, will be on hand to keep the proceedings on the verge of riotous. There will also be BMX and skateboard courses, a mechanical bull, a foam party (!?), and more activities. Local food trucks will keep the masses fed.

The X Games themselves would hypothetically be held at the increasingly multifaceted Circuit of the Americas venue. If we play our cards right we could finagle some long jumps over speeding cars. Just throwing that out there. By snagging the rights to the games we would host three years of skateboarding, BMX, and motocross nuttiness. Circuit of the Americas is spearheading the initiative to get X Games here and is going so far as to petition that the games include wakeboarding. That's assuming we still have water in this area by 2014.

RSVP via Facebook to make sure that ESPN knows Austin is serious about fun. Judging by the more than 1,700 people "going" (according to Facebook), might we suggest you take the bus? Perhaps bike or skate there?
