Kickstart Your Weekend: 'Vampyres'
Local horror needs your blood. They mean help. Help!

For the last few years, there's been a disconnect in Austin films. There's a wealth of visual and practical FX people, but not many horror and sci-fi projects for them to work on. Now a group of visual artists and film makers are taking a bite out of that problem with their new project: Vampyres.
Vampyres plans to put everyone's favorite bloodsuckers back as they should be: Merciless monsters, not pining preppies, and it will all be done with good, old fashioned practical effects.
Director Miguel Coronado III is one of Austin's more gifted concept artists and storyboarders (see more of his work at www.mciii.net), and he's responsible for the designs for the planned horror film. The project already has a script from J.R. Zambrano, a full crew, and a leading lady in actress/producer Josephine McAdam. Now the next step is to put together the $100,000 they need, and in low budget horror circles, that's not a lot – especially for a film that is going to put so many practical effects on the screen. They're trying to crowdsource half of that, so just $50,000 will put them well on the way to producing a film that will really show what Austin's horror community can do.
You can donate via www.vampyresfilm.com, and you'll find a full list of perks, from exclusive posters and t-shirts through to your very own IMDB credit as an executive producer. Check out the pitch video and first concept footage of Vampyres right here.
Kickstart Your Weekend is a series intended to showcase Texas film and tech projects that are crowdfunding their way to a goal, be it distribution, a prototype, or production costs. If you have a project that we should know about, email us at email@example.com.
