James Gandolfini Dies at 51

By Monica Riese, June 19, 2013, 7:04pm, Picture in Picture

Variety reports that James Gandolfini has passed away suddenly at the age of 51.

The actor, best known for his portrayal of Tony Soprano in HBO's The Sopranos, was reportedly vacationing in Italy when he suffered a massive heart attack and died. (Other reports have cited the cause of death as a stroke.)

Gandolfini recently appeared in such features as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Zero Dark Thirty, and Killing Them Softly, but his prolific career spanned a quarter of a century and included everything from In the Loop to Crimson Tide, The Mexican to Where the Wild Things Are.

Violet & Daisy is due in theatres this fall, and Animal Rescue, also starring Tom Hardy, is currently in post-production for a 2014 release.

Gandolfini is survived by wife Deborah Lin and two children. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
