You've been waiting nine years for it, and finally it's here. … Or, at least, almost here.

The Austin Film Society today announced its premiere event for Richard Linklater's Before Midnight. The film, which meets up with Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) for the third time in two decades – premiered in Austin during South by Southwest. “No, we weren't thinking about this journey 18 years ago,” Linklater said after the premiere. But it turned into "a wonderful creative experience."

And maybe you'll get the chance to get in on part of that experience for yourself on Thursday, May 23, 7pm, at the Violet Crown Cinema. Together with Sony Picture Classics, the VCC and AFS are presenting the film the night before its wide theatrical release. As an added bonus, Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy (who collectively co-wrote the script) will be in attendance to introduce the film and mingle at a prescreening cocktail party – appropriate for a trilogy that has revolved so much around conversations over drinks.

In addition, a small number of VIP tickets will be available for a three-course dinner with the director and cast, plus an autographed program. We expect it'll be even more enjoyable than that first meal together in a dining car.

If you miss this screening, fear not: Before Midnight will have a wide release Friday, May 24. Either way, if reports from SXSW are any indication, it'll be well worth the wait.

Tickets to the reception and premiere are $150 and go on sale to AFS members Wednesday, May 1 at noon and to the public Tuesday, May 7 at noon. VIP tickets are $1,000 per couple; proceeds benefit AFS's film exhibition program. Visit the AFS website for complete details.
