Seeing Is Believing
The Violet Crown Cinema has broken ground

All along, I said I'd believe it when I saw it. Well, it's now time to believe. Ground has been broken and construction has begun on Austin's newest film venue, the Violet Crown Cinema.
It will be located downtown on W. 2nd St.; the facade will sit directly across the street from where the entrance to Liberty Lunch once stood. Last I checked, the plan was to house four small auditoriums and showcase arthouse films and other select fare. A venue such as this is desperately needed in Austin, especially in the months following the demise of the venerable Dobie Theatre. The accompanying picture is an architect's rendering of the theatre. Videos of the constuction activity can be tracked on the VCC's Facebook page. Look for the theatre to debut in early 2011.
