Mo' Music SXSoGay Afterglow: Friday

Your faithful Mo' Music author and his amazing photographer buddy Ryan Obermeyer set out to do SXSW our way. Check us out every day this week for a recap of the night before.

As soon as I heard Solange was hosting a party at Cheer Up Charlie's, I was so there. There were rumors floating around that she'd perform, but alas she did not. She did come out to graciously introduce her Saint Heron compilation pals and say hello to the crowd. She looked as cute as always and encouraged the crowd to get as buzzed as she was.

I had never heard of Moses Sumney before but was pleasantly captivated by his spacey soul music. His voice was an exquisite and flexible croon that made me sigh. The highlight of his set was a trippy re-imagining of one of my favorite tracks of last year, "Childhood's End" by Majical Cloudz.

Hot pop upstart Kelela took the stage next to do her future-diva thing. The beats were banging, and her sultry, vocals we're in top form, especially her falsetto. She was extremely gracious and overwhelmed by the good vibes being sent her way. Her humility was really refreshing. She gets bonus points for looking totally sexy and for her killer dance moves.

Finally, and unexpectedly, we got a sonic treat from Tweet. Why this bold, brassy star is not bigger, I don't understand. Her vocals were a divaliscious force of nature that needs to be heard. She put on a fantastic, energetic show that had the crowd moving. The show was a surprise pleasure I was glad to witness. The highlight of her show is not surprisingly a hot rendition of her big hit "Oops (Oh My)."
