Tim Mahoney for Comptroller. Tim Mahoney for Trump?
Attorney, organizer enters statewide race

Breaking news from the desk that covers instances where “You must have me confused with somebody else.”
Last week, Austin attorney and labor organizer Tim Mahoney sent an email to friends and supporters confirming that he has filed to run as the Democratic nominee for state comptroller. Two days later, he sent a follow-up saying that he had “received a number of supportive responses, but that one in particular stood out: ‘Tim: did I see you marching for Trump one time?’ it read. ‘Absolutely NOT!’”
It does seem extremely unlikely that a liberal firebrand like Mahoney would be a Trumpkin. He’s a Jim Hightower protégé who’s been a fixture for decades in Travis County Democratic politics and last year sued Austin Community College (where he was once a trustee) after the administration barred Students 4 Bernie from running voter registration events and distributing political literature on campus. While some Clintonites have railed post-election about Bernie bros defecting to the Trump camp, history indicates that the only way Mahoney would be spotted at a Trump rally would be if he was protesting it altogether.
