Presidential Visit Causes Road Closures

By Brandon Watson, May 8, 2013, 11:51am, Newsdesk

Those who have made a sport of blaming Pres. Barack Obama for everything from declining morals to New York's apocalyptic cicada population can add a new calamity to their lists. Tomorrow the President's visit will cause downtown road closures and bus detours.

It will also likely cause the lower Colorado River to turn to blood, but we'll let Austin Water take care of that.

The Austin Police Department and U.S. Secret Service plan for the road closures to be within the perimeter of Sixth Street, Ninth Street, Brazos, and Trinity. As a result, Capital Metro will detour 14 bus routes from 10am to approximately 2pm. However, all detours may be changed or cancelled at any time. The public is urged to check the "Service Alerts" section of capmetro.org or to call the GO Line at 512/474-1200 prior to embarking on bus trips.

Detoured Routes:

• 1L/1M North Lamar/South Congress

• 3 Burnet/Manchaca

• 4 Montopolis

• 5 Woodrow/South Fifth

• 7 Duval/Dove Springs

• 10 South First/Red River

• 17 Cesar Chavez

• 20 Manor/Riverside

• 21 Exposition

• 22 Chicon

• 30 Barton Creek

• 100 MetroAirport

• 101 North Lamar/South Congress Limited

The following routes will also be detoured if road closures extend into the afternoon rush hour:

• 127 Dove Springs Flyer

• 142 Metric Flyer

• 990 Manor/Elgin Express
