Bradley Complaint Dismissed

The Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel at the State Bar of Texas has dismissed a complaint filed at the end of November, alleging that Williamson County District Attorney John Bradley engaged in criminal misconduct in connection with his handling a post-conviction DNA testing request by Michael Morton.

Morton was released from prison in the fall after spending nearly a quarter-century behind bars for the 1986 murder of his wife, Christine; DNA testing finally done last summer cleared Morton and implicated another man, Mark Alan Norwood, who has been arrested and charged with Christine's death.

The Texas Coalition on Lawyer Accountability filed a grievance with the Bar on Nov. 28, alleging misconduct by Bradley, District Judge Ken Anderson (who prosecuted Morton), and defense attorney Mike Davis (who acted as Anderson's second-chair at Morton's 1987 trial). In record time, the Bar has dismissed the complaint against Bradley in a Dec. 28 letter. The Bar has asked Anderson and Davis each to respond in writing to the charges.

Reportedly, the TCLA says it will appeal the dismissal of its complaint about Bradley.
